Chicago Convention Of 1944

The Chicago Convention of 1944, formally known as the Convention on International Civil aviation, is a foundational treaty in the field of aviation. It was established by 54 nations in Chicago, United States, in December 1944, with the aim of regulating international air transport. The convention established the International civil aviation organization (ICAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, to oversee and encourage the development of international civil aviation. The convention also set out principles and arrangements for the safe and orderly growth of international civil aviation. It covers aspects such as airspace, aircraft registration and safety, and details the rights of the signatories in relation to air travel. The convention also exempts air fuels from tax. The Chicago Convention has been ratified by 193 states as of 2020, making it one of the most widely accepted international treaties.
