Clearway

In aviation, a clearway is an area beyond the takeoff runway under the control of airport authorities that is kept free of all obstacles and buildings to ensure the safety of aircraft during takeoff. The clearway provides an area for an aircraft to safely stop in case of an aborted takeoff or an engine failure during takeoff. It is different from a runway overrun area, which is an area beyond the end of the runway used to reduce the risk of damage to an aircraft or injury to passengers in case of an overrun. The length of a clearway is determined by the aircraft's takeoff performance requirements and is usually marked by yellow chevrons.
