Glide Path
In aviation, Glide Path refers to the path that an aircraft follows during its final approach to land on a runway. It is a three-degree downward slope that starts from the runway threshold and extends up to a distance of 10 nautical miles from the runway. The Glide Path is created by the Instrument Landing System (ILS) which provides vertical and horizontal guidance to the pilot. The ILS uses radio signals to transmit information to the aircraft's receiver, which displays the information on the cockpit instruments. The Glide Path angle is critical for a safe landing, and pilots must maintain the correct angle to avoid a runway overrun or undershoot. The Glide Path angle may vary depending on the type of aircraft, runway length, and weather conditions.
