Pressure Altitude
Pressure altitude is the altitude in the standard atmosphere where the atmospheric pressure would be equal to the measured pressure. It is used as a reference for setting altimeters and determining aircraft performance. It is calculated by setting the altimeter subscale to 29.92 inches of mercury (inHg) and reading the altitude where the scale aligns with the current pressure. Pressure altitude is important for flight planning, as it affects aircraft performance, engine power output, and fuel consumption. It is also used for determining the height of obstacles and terrain, and for establishing minimum safe altitudes during flight.
