Stratus Clouds
In aviation, Stratus Clouds are low-level clouds characterized by horizontal layering with a uniform base, which often covers the entire sky. They are typically formed in stable air masses and are often accompanied by light precipitation or drizzle. Stratus clouds can reduce visibility and create low-level turbulence, making them a concern for pilots during takeoff and landing. They are classified as a low-level cloud and are found below 6,500 feet (2,000 meters) above ground level.
