Displaced Threshold
In aviation, a displaced threshold is a runway threshold that has been moved down the runway, away from the original landing surface. This means that the portion of the runway before the displaced threshold is no longer available for landing, but can still be used for takeoff. Displaced thresholds are often used to ensure that aircraft have adequate clearance from obstructions or to reduce noise levels in surrounding areas. Pilots must be aware of the displaced threshold and adjust their approach accordingly, aiming to touch down beyond the displaced threshold. Failure to do so can result in a runway excursion or collision with obstructions.
