Mode A
Mode A is a type of transponder code used in aviation to identify an aircraft's altitude. It is a four-digit code that ranges from 0000 to 7777, and is assigned by air traffic control. Mode A transponders only transmit altitude information, and do not provide any other data such as aircraft identification or speed. Mode A is an older technology that has largely been replaced by Mode C and Mode S transponders, which provide more detailed information about an aircraft's altitude, identity, and location.
