VHF

VHF, or Very High Frequency, is a range of radio frequency electromagnetic waves from 30 to 300 MHz, with corresponding wavelengths of ten meters to one meter. In aviation, VHF is used for a variety of purposes, most notably for communication between aircraft and ground stations. VHF communication is line-of-sight, meaning that the transmitting and receiving antennas must have a clear path between them without obstructions such as buildings or mountains. This makes VHF ideal for aviation as aircraft are often at high altitudes with clear line-of-sight to ground stations. VHF is also used for navigational aids such as VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range) and ILS (Instrument Landing System). VOR provides aircraft with a constant line of position relative to the station, allowing pilots to navigate accurately. ILS uses VHF to provide a precise and safe approach path for landing. VHF is a critical component of aviation communication and navigation systems.
