Sideslip
Sideslip is an aerodynamic condition where the aircraft is moving sideways through the air. This is achieved by applying opposite rudder and aileron inputs, causing the aircraft to yaw in one direction and roll in the opposite direction. The sideslip angle is the angle between the aircraft's longitudinal axis and the direction of its actual flight path. Sideslip is commonly used during crosswind landings to keep the aircraft's ground track aligned with the runway centerline while maintaining a straight heading. It is also used during aerial firefighting to create a wider coverage area for dropping retardant.
